The scam landscape is constantly evolving
Based on Mid-Year Scams and Cybercrime Statistics 2023, in the first half of 2023 alone, $334.5 Million was the total amount lost to scams in Singapore.
Job scams, e-commerce scams, fake friend call scams, phishing scams and investment scams were the top five scam types in the first half of 2023. These made up 83.8% of all scam cases reported during that period.
29.4% of scam cases involved contact via messaging platforms, compared to 23.6% in the same period last year, with about 70.5% of the cases via WhatsApp, and 24.1% via Telegram.
To keep up with the rapid changes in the nature of scams, we must work together to fortify our defence against scammers.
